A pesar del furor que caus� el empleo de drotrecogin alfa gracias al estudio PROWESS (2001) que lo consideraba un f�rmaco de suma importancia para la resoluci�n de los casos de sepsis grave con choque s�ptico y coagulopat�a secundaria, el estudio PROWESS-SHOCK lo desmitific� y los estudios ADDRESS y RESOLVE concluyeron que dicha sustancia no mejoraba los �ndices de mortalidad del paciente s�ptico grave, ni la estancia en terapia intensiva, ni el pron�stico final del paciente tanto adulto como pedi�trico, por lo que finalmente fue eliminado del mercado. Tras este evento, se ha intentado probar diversas sustancias sin encontrar hasta hoy ning�n f�rmaco capaz de demostrar mejor�a en casos de sepsis grave.
